Improvements made to data deposit form

Kamis, 11 Oktober 2012 | 0 komentar

ICPSR's online data deposit form has been streamlined to make it easier to use. The form has been shortened to two pages, and no longer requires users to log in with a MyData account.

The new form replaces the seven-part questionnaire that ICPSR had been using since 2007 to accept data online. While the information collected from depositors is essentially the same, the new form is much easier to use.

There are also two new features -- one allowing depositors to bookmark the section of the form dealing with metadata so they can go back and update it as necessary, and another that asks depositors to enter keywords associated with their dataset in order to help processors improve its discoverability.

Any suggestions on further improvements to the form can be sent to deposit@icpsr.umich.edu.

Explore the features of ICPSR's redesigned Web site

Selasa, 04 September 2012 | 0 komentar

Every two or three years, ICPSR re-evaluates how we can best serve our membership, and redesigns our Web site accordingly. Our new site launched Tuesday, September 4, and includes many new features and improvements, such as:

  • separate sites based on different user goals: Find and Analyze Data, Deposit Data, Membership in ICPSR, Data Management, the ICPSR Summer Program, and Resources for Instructors

  • changes to the search function including the ability to revise a search more quickly, an auto-complete function in the search box, and several improvements in the search results

  • inclusion of more information on the home page of each study in our repository

  • improvements to bibliography exports

  • the ability to compare characteristics of up to five variables from different studies on the same screen

  • an easier to navigate FAQ section.

More details on the redesign can be found here: http://www.icpsr.umich.edu/icpsrweb/content/ICPSR/redesign.html

NAHDAP releases Pathways to Desistance baseline data

Kamis, 23 Agustus 2012 | 0 komentar

The National Addiction & HIV Data Archive Program (NAHDAP) is pleased to announce the release of the baseline data from the Pathways to Desistance study.

Pathways to Desistance was a multi-site study that followed 1,354 serious juvenile offenders from adolescence to young adulthood in two locales. Enrolled into the study were adjudicated youths from the juvenile and adult court systems in Maricopa County (Phoenix), Arizona (N=654) and Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania (N=700) from 2000 through 2010.

Respondents were enrolled and baseline interviews conducted from November 2000 to January 2003. Follow-up interviews were then scheduled with the respondents at 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 48, 60, 72 and 84 months past their baseline interview. The follow-up data are scheduled for release in Fall 2012.

More information about this study is available on the Pathways to Desistance Web site.

New criminal justice data available for online analysis

| 0 komentar

The National Archive of Criminal Justice Data (NACJD) is pleased to announce the release of data for online analysis from the Census of Juveniles in Residential Placement (CJRP) and Juvenile Residential Facility Census (JRFC), a complement to the CJRP. The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) sponsors the data collection and the archiving activities for the CJRP and JRFC data collections. The CJRP provides a detailed picture of juveniles in custody and asks juvenile residential custody facilities in the United States to describe each youth assigned a bed in the facility on the specified reference date. The JRFC is designed to collect information about the facilities in which juvenile offenders are held. The following six studies are available:

  • Census of Juveniles in Residential Placement, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2006 -- Concatenated Data [United States] (ICPSR 27541)

  • Juvenile Residential Facility Census, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006 -- Concatenated Data [United States] (ICPSR 27542)

  • Census of Juveniles in Residential Placement and Juvenile Residential Facility Census, 1997, 1999-2004, 2006 -- Concatenated Matched Data [United States] (ICPSR 27543)

  • Census of Juveniles in Residential Placement and Juvenile Residential Facility Census, 1997, 1999-2004, 2006 -- Concatenated Matched Facility-Level Data [United States] (ICPSR 27544)

  • Census of Juveniles in Residential Placement and Juvenile Residential Facility Census, 1997, 1999-2004, 2006 -- Concatenated Matched State-Level Data [United States] (ICPSR 27545)

  • Juvenile Residential Facility Census, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006 -- Concatenated State-Level Data [United States] (ICPSR 27546)

Additionally, NACJD anticipates updating these data collections with the 2007 CJRP and the 2008 JRFC in fall 2012.

These data collections are restricted from general dissemination and are only available through remote access using NACJD's Restricted Survey Documentation and Analysis (RSDA) system. The RSDA system is a version of the Survey Documentation and Analysis (SDA) system developed and maintained by the Computer-Assisted Survey Methods Program at the University of California, Berkeley that automatically applies disclosure risk protections to protect respondent confidentiality by preventing an analysis from being run or by suppressing output if certain analytic criteria are not met. This system allows for the analysis of restricted-use data without access to the microdata. Users interested in accessing data through NACJD's RSDA system must complete a RSDA Data Use Agreement form and specify the reasons for the request. Apply for access to these data through the ICPSR restricted data contract portal, which can be accessed via the study home page for each of the above studies.

Individual years of data from the CJRP and JRFC are available through enclave access. Users interested in utilizing the enclave data must complete an Application for Use of the ICPSR Data Enclave which can be accessed via each study's home page. The CJRP and JRFC enclave data may be examined by approved investigators only on-site at ICPSR's secure data enclave in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Access to the data is arranged following a completed and approved Application for Use of the ICPSR Data Enclave. Analysis of these data is closely monitored to protect confidentiality.

Additional information about national juvenile corrections data collections sponsored by OJJDP is available from the National Juvenile Corrections Data Resource Guide.

NAHDAP releases four datasets from subcontract competition

Senin, 13 Agustus 2012 | 0 komentar

The National Addiction and HIV Data Archive Program (NAHDAP) has released datasets from four important addiction and HIV studies. These datasets are from subcontracts that NAHDAP awarded to the institutions in 2011. NAHDAP is a program of the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) through a contract with the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA).

The newly available datasets are:

  • The Etiological and Prospective Family Study in Southwestern Pennsylvania, Baseline Data, 1990-2011 from the Center for Education and Drug Abuse Research (CEDAR), containing data from a survey of 775 families affected by substance use disorder (SUD).

  • Older Drug Users: A Life Course Study of Turning Points in Drug Use, 2009-10 from Kennesaw State University in Georgia, consisting of data from a mixed-method, retrospective longitudinal study of 92 respondents in a large southeastern metropolitan area.

  • Addiction Health Evaluation and Disease (AHEAD) Management Study in Boston, 2006-2010, Boston Medical Center, containing data from a survey of more than 600 adults with alcohol or drug dependence.

  • The Chicago Male Drug Use and Health Survey, 2002-2003, from the University of Illinois at Chicago, consisting of data from a survey of more than 200 gay men in Chicago related to club drugs such as MDMA, Ketamine, GHB, and Rohypnol.

Datasets from the Oregon Youth Substance Abuse Project at the Oregon Research Institute will be released later this year.
